Carcassonne Market

There are thriving markets in the local towns; Monday is Mirepoix; Wednesday is Bram; Friday is Limoux; Saturday is Carcassonne. All offer an insight into a way of life, which for many visitors is a bygone era. So the Rooftops can be your base from which to explore this fascinating region, which has numerous activities all year round.

In the Summer you can follow the Cathar trail with its many fortified medieval villages and castles, including the famous four chateaux at Lastours while the winter offers excellent skiing or snowboarding all within a relatively short distance.

Further suggestions for trips:

The Abbey at St Hilaire, which also has a wonderful restaurtant at the Le Clos St Hilaire Hotel

La Cite - the medieval city of Carcassonne; in particular the spectacular fireworks display on July 14th.

The lake in the Montagne Noir - walks, swimming, barbeques and picnics

The Cathar castles at Queribus, Puivert and Foix

Boat trips on the Canal du Midi

Trips to the Mediterranean resorts of Narbonne and Gruissan (50 minutes drive from the house)

Skiing/snowboarding or simply walking in the Pyrenees (50 - 90 minutes depending on conditions)

The terrace of Le Clos St Hilaire
Wine tasting at the vineyards of the Corbieres and Minervois

Throughout the summer, the region is alive with festivals and events many of which are a short drive from our village.
